After a twelve year campaign the Canadian equivalent of NWS (NWMO) secured a narrow majority vote in favour of hosting an underground nuclear waste dump.
However, before the First Nation people held their vote, NWMO chose the cheaper alternative of Wabigoon Lake near (if you can call 40km near) the township of Ignace. Choosing the Ignace site will save them $200 million over the life of the project. After twelve years of setting one citizen against another, NWMO has walked away without a second thought.
Unlike Theddlethorpe and Mablethorpe South Bruce, being home to one of Canada;'s nuclear power stations is already a nuclear community. With only a few thousand visitors a year, they have no tourist income to lose. Nevertheless, the South Bruce Municipality officers, who supported the project, are pretty cheesed off about it. Unlike Lincolnshire South Bruce will get $10 million as consolation, we will get nothing when NWS walks away,
